Cutting your cake

Most of the time, when customers collect a cake from Frosted Dream Cakes, Durbanville, Cape Town, they always ask what the most efficient method is used to cut the cake in order to get the most decent sized servings. So here is a guide and some tips for you to use when choosing your cake size to cutting it at your event/party/wedding.   I really hope this helps 🙂

If you have allocated someone at your event to cut the cake, then it is very important that they know how to cut correctly.  If they don’t know, then a cake that is meant to give 150 servings can easily change to 100 servings.  People tend to cut larger slices than necessary.

When cutting a cake, 2 people work better than 1, especially when cutting larger and more complex cakes.

You will need a damp cloth to wipe the knife clean every few slices, to keep the cutting process neat and tidy

If you are cutting a tiered cake, then cutting needs to start at the top. Remove the tiers starting at the top, cut and serve.  Never attempt to cut a cake while it is still on top.

If the cake is round:

Before sinking the knife into the cake, first make markings of where you are going to cut to ensure the correct serving size.

If the cake is square:

The square cakes are much easier to cut, but you should still make the markings on it before cutting.

Here is a picture you can use as a guideline to show you how to cut and how many servings you should get.  I really hope this helps
